Becoming a Freemason

To become a Freemason, you must ask a Freemason whom you know for a petition for membership.

Any man who is at least 18 years of age, professes a belief in a Supreme Being (by whatever name known to him) and resides in Indiana, may petition an Indiana Symbolic Lodge (or "Blue Lodge") for membership. This is typically a matter of requesting a petition for membership from a member (in good standing) of any Indiana Symbolic Lodge. Such member is usually a personal aquaintance of the petitioner, but this is not always the case. After a petition is received by the Lodge and read at a stated meeting, an investigating committee is assigned to interview the petitioner and make a recommendation to the Lodge. A vote is taken, and if there are no dissenting votes, then the petitioner is elected to receive all three degrees of Ancient Craft Masonry: the Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft, and Master Mason degrees.
